About us

MSS Research is the social science research division of The Mother's Service Society, a non-profit organization established in Pondicherry, India in 1970.

MSS Research fosters innovative research, nurtures new generations of social scientists, deepens how inquiry is practiced within and across disciplines, and mobilizes necessary knowledge on important public issues. MSS Research is guided by the belief that justice, prosperity, and democracy all require better understanding of complex social, cultural, economic, and political processes. We work with practitioners, policymakers, and academic researchers in the social sciences, related professions, and the humanities and natural sciences. We build interdisciplinary and international networks, working with partners around the world to link research to practice and policy, strengthen individual and institutional capacities for learning, and enhance public access to information. Our objectives include a wide range of research activities with particular emphasis on social science research in the field of socio-economic development. 

MSS was registered in Pondicherry under the Societies Registration Act on October 17, 1970. It has been officially recognized by the Government of India as a tax-exempt charitable organization, an educational institution and social science research institute under sections 12AA(b) and 10(23c)(vi) of the Indian Income Tax Act. Donations to the Society are exempt from taxation under Sections 35(1)(iii) and 80G(5)(vi).

MSS is an official international center of the World Academy of Art & Science collaborating with the Academy on research projects and publishing activities related to economics, social development, international security and global governance. The Mother's Service Society, a social science research institute based in Pondicherry, India, and CENTER OF EXCELLENCE OF THE WORLD ACADEMY OF ART & SCIENCE under the direction of Garry Jacobs, President & CEO of WAAS and Vice President of MSS and Ashok Natarajan, WAAS Fellow and Secretary of MSS. WAAS and MSS jointly conduct research and conferences on a wide range of subjects including global leadership, education, human security, economic theory, new paradigm, employment, individuality, transdisciplinary social science, management, mind and creativity. Click here for a complete list of WAAS-MSS past activities.

MSS is also a Charter Member of the World University Consortium, WUC, an initiative of leading international non-governmental organizations to design a global system of higher education relevant to the emerging needs of the 21st century.

Strategies for Transformative Global Leadership

The Mother's Service Society is an official partner in the Global Leadership for the 21st Century (GL-21) project, a multi-stakeholder, multi-sectoral project organized by the World Academy of Art & Science, the United Nations Office at Geneva and several partner organizations. WAAS arranged a five-day e-conference from June 15-19, 2020, involving over 225 speakers representing scientific research and educational institutions, civil society and youth organizations IGOs, nation states, and business, to highlight innovative strategies and effective principles to accelerate the emergence of dynamic global leadership for the 21st century. The project will culminate is a conference at the United Nations Office at Geneva on October 27-28, 2020, wherein a project report with recommendations will be presented to the UN, followed by other outreach programs.
